When I first approached the Royal Navy with the idea, it responded with mild amusement. But as time progressed so the challenge was taken more seriously. Eventually, on a blustery August day at the Royal Naval Air Station at Culdrose, Cornwall, I found myself looking out over the seemingly never-ending bonnet of the first production convertible E-type, my navigator and the car’s owner, Peter Neumark, alongside.
