Unit 5 Canada—“The True North” surround, distance, terrify, impress, settle down, have a gift for, as far as, rather than 1. surround surrounding adj. 周围的 surroundings n. 环境 surround…with… 使…包围… be surrounded by / with… 被…包围 辨析surroundings / condition / environment / circumstances: 1 surroundings作为“环境”,常用复数形式,主要指周围的物质环境。 2 condition的复数形式conditions可表示“环境,情况”的意思,但它主要是抽象意义上的。 3 environment“环境”,指大的自然环境,范围被surroundings大,有时也指人成长的家庭环境,强调环境对人的感受、道德及观念的影响。 4 circumstances指人生存的客观环境,还可以指“境地,境遇”,尤指经济状况。 eg: I’d like to bring up my child in healthy surroundings. Their daughter is very gifted. He received a lot of gifts on his birthday. 7. as far as 远到,直至,至于 as far as 远至 / 达 as / so far as 达到…的程度;尽…;就… as / so far as sb / sth is concerned 就某人 / 物而言 as far as the eye can see / reach 就视力所能及 so / as far as I can see 依我看 by far… …得多 so far 迄今为止(作状语,谓语动词多用完成时) far from 远非, 一点也不 as / so long as 只要 as much / many as 多达…,达到…之多 as soon as 一…就… eg: We can walk as far as the seaside.
